A Beginner's Guide to Cricket Fielding Positions
NetCric Staff
A cricket field is a captain's chessboard, and the fielders are the pieces. The placement of these pieces can be the difference between winning and losing. Let's break down the basics.
The Infield
The infield consists of close-in catching positions designed to put pressure on a new batsman. These include the slips, gully, short leg, and the intimidating "silly" positions right under the batsman's nose.
The Outfield
The outfield is all about saving boundaries (fours and sixes). Fielders are placed on the edge of the playing area at positions like deep midwicket, long-on, and third man. The captain adjusts these based on the bowler's style and the batsman's strengths.
